Bad weather and a cold delayed our one year photoshoot, but we finally got out today - and it was such a perfect day! And I have to say she was the perfect little model - - and I STILL can't believe she's 1...

Strangers I love...

1. The elderly woman coming out of Walmart in a torrential downpour who, when she saw Josie and I didn't have an umbrella, turned around and escorted us back in with hers.

2. The woman in the grocery store who witnessed Josie dropping and shattering a glass salt-shaker, then smiling she says in a whisper, "Just keep moving! You've got enough to worry about!"

3. The man at dinner who came up to Ben and asked him if he was in "the service" then thanked him so much for his service to our country.

Josie's 1st birthday party was pretty wild - if you think partying at home with your parents is wild.

I couldn't decide on a theme for her cake, so I decided to go with totally wild and wacky.

Birthday Baby

Happy Birthday to my sweet, beautiful baby girl! I have mixed emotions on this very special day: a little sad to realize how fast babies really do grow up, extremely happy to have had such an amazing year with her, and so excited to continue to watch her learn and grow. She is such an amazing little person and I feel so lucky to be her mother. My heart aches with overwhelming love for her, and I hope I can learn and grow with her - and be a better mom to her every day.
We wish all of our family and friends could be here to celebrate our little birthday girl, but we'll take lots of pictures all day long and have you in our hearts!

This is the start of a new feature on our blog: a monthly spotlight on a friend or loved one.

Our Special Friend of the month for October is Ben's brother, Jed! Jed is an electrical contractor, working in the Bay Area of Northern California. Jed's hobbies are surfing, skating, hunting, spearfishing, abalone diving, and spending time with his adorable girlfriend Cristen and her puppy Party Dog.

Jed's favorite book is Electricity for Dummies, his favorite food is surf 'n turf, and his favorite movie is Point Break. Congratulations on being this month's Special Friend!

Oh how I love this little babe! Today I was watching her sleep and having the kind of mom-moment where you realize how lucky you really are. I thank Heavenly Father every day for this sweet peanut who makes my life so amazingly happy.

Today on a whim, Jos and I decided to drive to the beach - - and it's so beautiful! I kinda just drove until I hit the ocean, but I ended up in the cutest little beach town with tons of surfers and cute houses. I LOVE IT! I can't wait to go back...
